Making Floral Greeting Cards

Would you like to try your hand at making your own greeting cards? One of the simplest ways to get started is to use pressed flowers to design unique, one-of-a-kind greetings for the special people in your life.

If you grow your own flowers, you already have a ready source of florals to use in your greeting cards. Your special handmade cards will be treasured and appreciated by any person lucky enough to receive one.

Here’s how to make greeting cards out of flowers:

Make greeting cards out of flowers: Gather your supplies

You’ll need a basic card to serve as the canvas for your florals. You can either buy a ready made blank greeting card, available from your local craft store, or make your own by folding heavy card stock in half to create a card. While you’re at the craft store, pick up a bottle of white craft glue to glue your flowers into place. You can either purchase a package of pressed flowers from your craft store or press your own at home. To press your own, simply place the flowers in heavy book with several other books on top to create the weight needed to flatten them. Leave the flowers in the book for three days. When you remove them they should be ready to use in your project.

Make greeting cards out of flowers: Create your design

Spend some time arranging the pressed flowers on the surface of your card until you have a pleasing arrangement. Use tweezers to pick up the flowers to avoid injuring the delicate parts. Your designs can be big, bold, and colorful, or sweet and discrete depending on the look you want to create. You can also add pressed leaves and foliage to give your designs more interest and texture.

Make greeting cards out of flowers: Attach your flowers

Once you’re pleased with your design, use a small amount of white craft glue to attach the flowers to the card using your tweezers to carefully lift the flowers. The craft glue is easiest to apply if you use a q-tip. Allow the glue to dry overnight before attempting to handle the cards.

You’ve now completed your first pressed flower greeting card. Don’t forget to write a message inside for the lucky recipient. There’s no need to visit the greeting card store anymore when you can make your own personalized, one-of-a-kind pressed flower greeting cards. They make the perfect gift for Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, birthdays, and any other special occasion. Don’t be afraid to experiment with a variety of florals and greenery to create a signature line of pressed flower cards that are uniquely yours.
